Slow Beam

If you're a lover of dark and moody interiors, good food, wine and art, then we couldn't recommend Slow Beam  (@slow_beam) enough. Nestled into the West Hobart hills in Tasmania, this architecturally designed house has been created specifically for a unique Hobart getaway. We recently chatted with Lauren Bamford, the owner and creator behind this luxury accommodation about her inspiration behind the design.

"I didn't want to do the cliched muted monochrome moody palette, as I also have a love of colour and pattern" Lauren said, "I was very much inspired by 1960's Italian Gio Ponti style, so wanted to get that mid-century mod touch into the house as well."

"I want them to relax, appreciate the design mixing with the natural setting, but most importantly -  to feel spoilt"

"I have considered every single detail in the house - from the obvious (design, furnishings), right down to the baking trays and dishcloth. The entire house has been curated to make this vision come to life, and be shared with people visiting Hobart. I personally am a bit obsessed about finding the perfect place to stay when we travel, so this was my chance to create a place I would love to stay in, and one I would want to return to."

If you're looking at your own luxury escape to Hobart, Lauren's first piece of advice is to book the hire car as soon as possible. "It's something I have found go up and up in price over the years, so the sooner you do that the better. And having a car in Tasmania is essential," she said. 

"The second thing I would do is make reservations at Franklin, Templo and Fico. You should eat at, at least one of these places when you visit Hobart, and getting a last minute reservation is almost impossible! And it would be remiss of me not to say the following - go to Mona."
